Qld: Libs call for financial incentives to keep meatworks open

Liberal party leader BOB QUINN says the Queensland government should consider offeringfinancial incentives to convince the owners of a Rockhampton meatworks to reopen.

Mr QUINN says the government has offered incentives worth millions to attract companieslike Virgin Blue and he says they should do the same to maintain existing industries.

Consolidated Meat Group has told staff at its Lakes Creek Meatworks the plant willnot open for business -- as scheduled tomorrow -- after the annual Christmas break.

There's no date set for the re-opening of the meatworks …
